Demo-Day 2,3,4....

On Saturday we attempted to go to Home Depot twice. Neither time was very successful. The first time we stormed out because Will was acting up and Syd was mad that she couldn't. We came home and while the kids took naps I pulled up the carpet strips, and the trim that runs along the bottom of the floor. I also removed the shower doors, and then Shane removed the metal runners that the shower doors sit on, and then the shower walls. Later that night we returned to Home Depot to pick out tile for the floor and get a few more tools, such as a crowbar, and those things to remove tile from the floor. This time Syd was acting up so we still didn't really get much time to pick out tile.

This is a picture of the bottom of the wall after the molding was removed. The termite damage was more extensive than we had originally thought. Luckily it was only in the drywall, but its both walls of what was our closet. I'm so glad we got the house treated when we bought it. We're approaching the 3 year mark which I think is the time to get the house retreated. But I could be wrong, it could be 5.

Shane got the shower walls and drywall removed on Saturday. But we were stumped as far as how to get the tub out. We thought it was cast iron and pretty heavy. Plus the drain was really stuck. Sunday Shane finally got the drain out and yesterday (Monday), when he got home we were able to get the tub out. It wasn't as heavy as we had originally thought. Using the 2x4's we were able to slide the tub out of the spot, then turn it on its side and carry out into the backyard. Cake.

Shane also removed the drywall around the sink faucets. We're going to have to split the hot and cold water lines, and the drains to run to two pedestal sinks. We're thinking we're going to have a plumber come out. We need to know if what we're contemplating is even possible. Where the tub was will be a walk-in shower. On the other side of this wall will be a claw-foot tub. We're hoping that we can run the drain from the tub directly into the line that was the overflow drain. We will also have the faucet valves moved up to arm level height for the shower.
The black pipe on the left is the ventilation pipe for the sewer line. We will have to build the wall out to cover and protect that pipe.
The electrical should be fairly simple. We want to move the light fixture to the right about two feet, on the same beam. Shane will have to crawl into the small attic space in order to do that. The only thing is the attic space entrance is clear on the other end of the house. That will make it more difficult.

Currently the light switches would be hanging down in the middle of the room. We'll have to run the wiring back up into the ceiling and down along the wall. Also the light fixtures are on two different switches. (One was the bathroom, one was the closet), Because it will all be one room now, it would be nice to have them on one switch. That shouldn't be too hard to do either.

Once we get the plumbing situation figured out it should be smooth sailing. We're hoping that they won't have to break open a hole and line in the concrete floor for the tub drain, that will make the cost of the project that much harder, longer and more expensive. But we won't know till we have a plumber come out and give us an estimate. I'm supposed to be making phone calls today...
